Education is the key to controlling the effects of asthma. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America - Texas Chapter website has been enhanced to provide the best resource available on the internet for physicians, nurses, care givers, schools, asthmatics, and the parents of asthmatics.

Asthma is a debilitating and sometimes fatal respiratory disease. It is particularly severe on the young and the elderly. It is estimated that over 5,000 people die each year from asthma. Asthma is the second leading cause of employee absenteeism and the number one reason for adolescent hospital admissions. Unfortunately, over the last 20 years the incidence of asthma in the world has gone up dramatically. Today it is estimated that one in ten people suffer from the disease. There is no known cure.

That is the bad news. The good news is that asthma is controllable. With the proper allergen avoidance, medication and care the average asthmatic can lead a perfectly normal life. In fact, many top athletes have asthma and are able to perform at peak levels despite their disease. The key to reducing the effects of asthma is education. The more one knows about the disease and how to handle it, the better the outcomes.

With this in mind the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America - Texas Chapter has made a major investment in upgrading its website to provide the best information and tools available anywhere (www.aafatexas.org). The site contains extensive information about asthma. But most importantly it contains a vast library of tools for those effected by asthma. These tools are for physicians and other medical providers, for parents of asthmatics, for school teachers, nurses and administrators and for asthmatics. Many of the articles and tools on the site are available in both English and Spanish. All of the necessary model forms are available in this one resource. They can be downloaded and printed from the site.

If you or a loved one have asthma or you need more information and resources to more effectively and safely help those who have asthma, this is an outstanding site. It is well worth the time to peruse it now and use it at every opportunity.
